Stuart Binny will travel to Sri Lanka to join the Indian Test team ahead of the second Cricbuzz Cup Test that starts from August 20. India team's media manager Nishant Jeet Arora told Cricbuzz that there are no injury concerns in the Indian team and Binny's inclusion is to give the side an extra option.
Despite taking a 192-run lead, India lost the opening Test after being bowled out for 112 in the second innings to suffer a 63-run loss. The decision to rope in Binny is seen as a move to add depth to the middle order after India's woeful showing in the second essay at Galle.
Murali Vijay, who missed the first Test because of a hamstring injury, is expected to be fit for the second Test. However, there was no update on Shikhar Dhawan, who suffered an injury to his arm after putting down a catch in the first Test.
"All-rounder Stuart Binny will join the Indian Cricket Team before the second match of the three-match Test series in Sri Lanka. The second Test match starts Thursday (August 20, 2015)," stated a BCCI media release.
Binny has represented India in three Tests so far in his career - all against England in 2014 series. He averages 23.60 with the bat and has a Test fifty against his name, which came in his debut game as he helped India draw the Trent Bridge Test. Binny though is yet to pick up a wicket.
