Star Sports and Mumbai-based digital agency Blink Digital have been awarded the bronze statue at the Clio Sports Awards for their digital campaign to launch the inaugural season of Pro Kabaddi League.
This is the first time that an Indian broadcaster has won an award for its campaign at Clios, a prestigious global programme that recognises innovation and creative excellence in advertising, design and communication.
The Clio Sports Awards, part of the world renowned Clio Awards, were established in 2014 to recognise excellence in sports marketing and advertising.
Entries to the Clios are vetted by who’s-who of the sports business – from marketing executives and commissioners to broadcasters and athletes – who sift through an international pool of submissions.
The entries this year were judged by an esteemed panel comprising senior representatives from the NBA (National Basketball Association), NFL (National Football League), MLB (Major League Baseball), MLS (Major League Soccer) and Turner as well as Twitter and EA.
After an exhaustive elimination process, campaigns that succeeded in elevating sports culture in the collective consciousness, making stars of players, legends of clubs and icons of brands were honoured.
A Star Sports spokesperson said, “We have made a commitment to fostering a multi-sport culture in India and, to that end, we spared no effort in popularising Kabaddi and breaking it out of its niche. We succeeded.
The League was extremely well-received by fans and the media and it is extremely satisfying to see that success was recognised on a global scale.
As we gear up for the second season of the Star Sports Pro Kabaddi League, the recognition bestowed on us by such an elite jury only spurs us on towards realising our vision for the sport.”
