Expanding beyond its core business, music streaming service Spotify is introducing a video service along with new content for its users from its partners including Comedy Central and Vice News. Spotify also plans to offer news and podcast through the partnerships.
The company is emphasising personalised playlists and recommendations based on the time of day through its ‘Now’ feature, which has rolled out to Apple iPhone users in certain markets, beginning with the US, UK, Sweden and Germany.
Android versions and further global expansion are on the anvil. Spotify founder and CEO Daniel Ek said, “We’re bringing you a deeper, richer, more immersive Spotify experience. We want Spotify to help soundtrack your life by offering an even wider world of entertainment with an awesome mix of the best music, podcasts, and video delivered to you throughout your day. And we’re just getting started.”
Through its ‘Running Originals’, Spotify will bring music that dynamically adapts to the users’ running tempo. A total of six original tracks, all found within Spotify Running, are available at launch.
Moreover, Spotify Running will combine music through recommendations based on users’ listening history, multiple-genre playlists, and original running compositions written by some of the world’s foremost DJs and composers. When users start running, Spotify will detect their tempo, matching the perfect music in time to their step.
