Spectranet has pipped Bharti Airtel to become the fastest internet service provider with 2.17 Mbps speed in Netflix’s ISP Speed Index. Airtel with 2.10 Mbps speed took the second spot and also witnessed a decline in its broadband speed which was earlier 2.21 Mbps.
The Sunil-Mittal run telco provides broadband services via cable, DSL, wireless and fibre, while Spectranet provides its services only through fibre.
Reliance Communications also witnessed an increase in its internet speed, where it went from 1.55 Mbps to 1.63 Mbps, also aiding the telco to up two ranks.
ATRIA Convergence Technologies emerged as the third fastest internet service provider with 1.71 Mbps, followed by 7 Star Digital with 1.63 Mbps speed.,Hathway continued to maintain its sixth position with 1.55 Mbps speed.
“We measure the speed via all available end user devices. For a small number of devices, we cannot calculate the exact bitrates and streaming via cellular networks is exempted from our measurements. The speed indicated in the Netflix ISP Speed Index is not a measure of the maximum throughput or the maximum capacity of an ISP,” said Netflix.
Tata Communications grabbed the ninth spot with 1.35 Mbps speed, followed by Syscon Infoway and Tikona with 1.35 and 1.22 Mbps speeds, respectively.
Government-run telcos BSNL and MTNL remained at the bottom positions with 1.15 and 1.05 Mbps speeds, respectively.
However, one must note that Netflix’s ISP index is not a measure of overall performance for other services or data that may travel across the specific ISP network.
