Sony's answer to Google's hi-tech eyewear, SmartEyeglass, has been officially rolled out for sale in 10 countries. The wearable gadget was announced a few months ago and on March 28, the developer edition hit the stores.

The Sony SmartEyeglass Developer Edition, SED-E1, which includes a separate controller along with the main AR eyeglass, will sell for $840. However, the smart glass's overall appearance may put you off after the comparatively sophisticated-looking Google Glass.

The wearable gadget is purely an augmented-reality display and uses hologram optics technology to superimpose text, symbols and images onto the wearer's natural field of view. Similar to Google Glass, the Sony SmartEyeglass can overlay information like navigation directions or voice messages.

The device is now available for purchase in Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, UK, and the US. Any consumers in the US, Germany, UK, and Japan can acquire the gadget, while in other countries it is limited to business customers.
