After announcing the start of the Androi
5.0 Lollipop update rollout for its Xperia
Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact smartphones
in the middle of March, Sony on Monday
has announced that the Sony Xperia Z2
and Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet will start
rolling out from next week.
The Japanese smartphone manufacturer
on Monday also announced that the
Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact has started
receiving its Android 5.0 Lollipop update
and added that two other Sony
smartphones - the Sony Xperia T2 Ultra
and Sony Xperia C3 - will also start
receiving their Lollipop update "soon",
but did not provide a more exact time-
frame.
Unfortunately, Sony has not provided a
changelog for the Android 5.0 Lollipop
update for the Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2
Tablet, Xperia T2 Ultra, and Xperia C3.
The company however had provided a
changelog at the time of the Sony Xperia
Z3 and Sony Xperia Z3 Compact update
rollout announcement, and the changes
should be similar for other Sony Xperia
products as well.
The Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the
Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact brings
Google's Material Design interface
(Lollipop-style notifications, and lock
screen with fully customisable settings),
but retains the company's approach to
minimalistic interface and application
design. Sony has also included Android
Lollipop's multi-user profiles and guest
mode features.

The Japanese firm also claims it has
improved storage control and
customisation options to easily move
applications from internal memory to SD
card. Other than that, the Android 5.0
Lollipop update for the Xperia Z3 and
Xperia Z3 Compact has got support for
Android for Work, notes Sony.
Last week, Xperia Z2 users in some
regions reported they were receiving the
Android 5.0 Lollipop update, ahead of
any official announcement by the
company. User reports were based out of
Nordic and Baltic regions, the same
regions where the Lollipop update for th
Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact began
its rollout.
In March, Sony also launched a new
smartphone - the Sony Xperia J1
Compact - for Japan. The company has
not detailed availability of the
smartphone for other regions. The Sony
Xperia J1 Compact (D5788) is
company's first LTE communication
"PLAY SIM" device with MVNO (mobile
virtual network operator) support, that
provides voice calls plans on NTT
DoCoMo tailored to consumer needs,
says Sony.
Also in March, the Japanese firm
launched the Sony Xperia E4 Dual in
India, priced at Rs. 12,490. With the
launch, India became one of the first
regions globally to see the smartphone
hit shelves.
