Sony has started rolling the latest Android 7.0 Nougat update for its flagship smartphone, the Xperia XZ. It is the first among 10 other Xperia-series smartphones and tablets to get the update. The update brings all the goodness of Android Nougat along with bug fixes and performance improvements.
Being rolled out as an over-the-air (OTA) update, it is around 1GB in size. However, as the roll out is being done in a phased manner, it may take a while before the update hits your device. Once the update is available, you will get a notification about the same. In the meantime, you can also manually check for the update by heading over to Settings -> About Phone -> Software Update.
New features as a part of the update include multi-window support allowing you to use two apps simultaneously, and double tap to switch between them. The update also brings improved doze mode for longer battery life, bundled notifications and quick reply to messages from notifications. Sony has also worked to improve its messaging app by adding new features that let you share videos and audio in just a few taps.
Recently, Motorola announced Android 7.0 Nougat update for the Moto Z and Moto Z Force, which also brings support for Google VR Platform. Sadly, despite being powered by Snapdragon 820 SoC, Sony has not mentioned anything about Daydream support for the smartphone.
Along with the Xperia XZ , Sony has also promised the Nougat update for other smartphones such as the Xperia Z3 Plus, Xperia Z4 Tablet, Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact, Xperia X , Xperia XA, Xperia XA Ultra , Xperia Z5 Premium, Xperia X Performance , and Xperia X Compact .
