Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced that it will launch new 4K digital service next month. Dubbed as ‘Ultra’, the 4K streaming service will be unveiled on April 4 on new Sony 4K television models in the United States.

Ultra service which will be powered by the Sony Pictures Store, offers a variety of movies for purchase and playback in 4K Ultra HD, with many including High Dynamic Range (HDR) and Digital Extras. The service will launch with just under 50 movies, which will cost $30 each. Ultra will offer a selection of Sony-produced films for purchase and playback in 4K Ultra HD, ranging from new releases like Concussion, The Night Before, and The Walk to older hits including Ghostbusters and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

Sony is offering four free Ultra titles for customers who are purchasing the Sony 4K televisions. The ULTRA 4K service is compatible with UltraViolet, so users will be able to link their ULTRA profiles to their existing UltraViolet libraries, and stream their Sony Pictures content previously purchased or redeemed through other UltraViolet-compatible retailers, such as
SonyPicturesStore.com , Vudu and others.

In addition, Sony Pictures Store customers that already own HD versions of select titles can upgrade them to 4K on Ultra for a special discounted price.
