Sony to launch Xperia Z2 on May 8 in India
NEW DELHI:Smartphone maker Sony will launch its latest flagship device, the Xperia Z2 on May 8 in India, sources aware of the company's plans told ET. Sony has sent out invitations to media which suggested a smartphone launch on that day. The waterproof and dust resistant Xperia Z2 flaunts a 5.2-inch screen with a full-HD (1920x1080 pixels) LCD display and a layer of glass protecting the screen and back. The company has not officially released the price of this device, but Amazon UK has started pre-orders at 544.87 Pound Sterling, which works to a little over Rs 56,000 in India. But the actual India price should be lower, sources say. The Android 4.4.2 KitKat supporting device comes with 16 GB of internal memory (of which 12 GB is accessible) which can be expanded to 64GB. Xperia Z2's functions on a 2.3GHz Snapdragon 801 processor and boasts of 3GB of RAM, way higher than flagship devices from competition - Samsung Galaxy S5 and HTC One M8 - that have RAM of 2 GB.
The device's 20.7 megapixel primary camera has several features including image stabilization and the ability to record 4000 videos. It also packs a 2.2-megapixel front camera, which will come in handy for selfies. The Sony Xperia Z2 has 3,200mAh battery, which means the smartphone should be able to last the day without recharge on normal usage.
