Two of the most popular and free image editing apps, Snapseed by Google and Adobe Photoshop Express by Adobe, received upgrades. The updated versions of the apps are rolling out on the app store. Considering the updates, Adobe Photoshop Express received a significantly large update in comparison whereas Snapseed saw the addition of new features that add to its existing arsenal of updates.

Adobe Photoshop Express

Adobe revamped the entire user interface of the app right from the Image picker, settings, share screen, Splash screen to the editor screens. This major overhaul was to bring the app at par with other apps offered by Adobe like Adobe Photoshop Mix and Adobe Lightroom in the lightroom. The app was further updates to support 17 additional languages.

The company updated the app to handle permissions introduced in Android 6.0 (which really says something about how much this updated was needed in the first place for the app). In addition to all these, the developers implemented redo functionality with fixes to Facebook and google sign-in integration. The app also gained a Facebook Cover Photo and 16×9 crop constraint in the cropping menu. Last but not the least, the app gained Adobe Creative Cloud integration where you can now import images from and save to CC (Creative Cloud) library.

Google Snapseed 2.9

Google updated Snapseed to version 2.9, adding white balance adjustment in terms of temperature and tint. The new White balance tool introduces a picker to pick the white area in the image for more accurate white balance corrections. The app was also updated to add new features to the perspective tool which now allows stretching and skewing photos for fine tuning the distortions.

In addition, the developers introduced Face filter which automatically detects faces in the images and highlights them. It offers skin smoothing and “eye clarity” adjustments. Snapseed for iOS also gained the ability to edit RAW files with the 2.9 version, a feature which was already available for Android users. The app gained settings on saving with varying quality in JPEG and a full quality PNG format in addition to an option to set the resizing while saving the edited files.
