The Panaji Smart City and KTCL launched a fleet of Smart EV Air-Conditioned Buses within the Panaji CIty and surrounding areas in July 2024. This is one of the steps taken to overhaul and improve the public transportation system in the State of Goa.
Some features of the smart EV AC Buses:
- Total 7 dedicated color coded routes as of now
- Fully Air Conditioned (AC)
- Low Floors & Senior Citizen Friendly
- Spacious Seating and Standing areas
- USB Charging Points
- Stop Button
- CCTV and Security
- Panic / SOS Button / Safety Kit
- GPS and Live Tracking
- Google Maps Integration
- Automated Commuter Annoucement System
- Real Time Route Updates
- Smart Transit Cards and QR Code App based pole mounted validators.
These buses will be cash-less and conductor-less and the system will run in a similar manner as seen in Dubai, Singapore and Europe. Commuters need to register for Smart Transit Cards which will work on a Tap-In (Board) and Tap-Out (De-Board) method. Apart from this QR Code based digital ticketing App from Tummoc can also be used to purchase tickets. Commuters can also purchase tickets from smart kiosks available at the bus stops.
With more and more vehicular traffic and jams, its time we shift to public transport system that not only is environment friendly but also cost effective.
