Shane Warne suffers broken hand after old Australia team-mate Brett Lee bowls beamer in MCC vs Rest of World 200th anniversary match at Lord's
They have been team-mates and friends for years in one of the most successful cricket teams in history.
But when Shane Warne faced his old mate Brett Lee in the MCC's 200th anniversary match at Lord's, the welcome was far from friendly.
Warne sustained a broken hand and was forced to withdraw from the match when a beamer from Lee's first delivery at him struck him hard on the glove.
A photograph tweeted by the official Lord's account showed Warne's hand red and swollen after the end of the innings.
It later confirmed that x-rays showed the hand was broken.
Warne is one of the captains in the bicentennial match, but the large crowd will miss out on the spectacle of the Australian spinner bowling at Indian legend and opposite number Sachin Tendulkar.
A Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) side captained by Tendulkar is taking on a Rest of the World XI led by Warne in a 50 over one-day match.
Six months after retiring from the sport, Tendulkar is playing alongside his long-time teammate Rahul Dravid, West Indies Brian Lara and Australian pace bowler Brett Lee - while Warne's Rest of the World team includes the likes of Adam Gilchrist, Kevin Pietersen and Shahid Afridi.
The Rest of the World side posted a total of 293-7 in their 50 overs batting first, Yuvraj Singh scoring 132 to rescue them following a top order collapse.
