From putting together a
tournament for retired cricketers to
playing professional poker, being a
single working father, working for
television networks and selling
underwears, Shane Warne currently
has his hands full. Yet, the
legendary leggie doesn't mind if
more workload comes his way and
more importantly, if such workload
involves coaching the young Indian
team.
"I'd love to," he said when faced
with the question if the idea of
coaching India sounded good to
him. "Something (else) will have to
give but if the opportunity came
about, I'd think about it," Warne
said on the sidelines of a
promotional event in Mumbai on
Friday (April 1).
Warne was present alongside
former Australian speedster Brett
Lee and both said they were
disappointed with India bowing
out of T20 WC. "I backed India to win
the tournament even before a ball
was bowled," Warne said. "When
Chris Gayle got out, I said 'it is going
to be one way India', so it is
disappointing," Lee added.
Warne, however, was scathing in
thoughts on India's attack. "India
didn't get their basics right, they
bowled a few no-balls. 192 was a
good score but the Indians didn't
bowl well enough," he said. R
Ashwin being given only two overs
to bowl and Ravindra Jadeja's
tactics of bowling wide of the off-
stump also did not make sense to
Warne. "He went for 48 runs in his
four overs. So I don't think he got it
quite right either," Warne said of
Jadeja.
The spin king and Lee were
unanimous in their praise for Virat
Kohli's batting abilities. "When you
got a star player like Virat Kohli, I
think you got a blank piece of paper
and you say 'who is your first pick
T20 player' and for me it is Virat
Kohli. I would select him at No. 3,
that is my first selection. Second
would probably be Chris Gayle for
the opening position," Warne said.
"He is a world class player. The way
he played last night was brilliant,"
Lee added.
