Ravi Shastri's contract as team director may have ended, but Indian players are in no mood to let go off his services.
According to a report in The Indian Express, senior Team India members have informed the BCCI that Shastri continuing is their preferred option instead of appointing a new coach.
Players appear to have liked the former India captain's 'positive' and 'aggressive' approach.
“We consulted the players recently on who they want to be the head of the team and many senior players were all praise for the work done by Shastri, and have said that they would be really happy if he continues in his role. A decision would be made soon,” a top source in BCCI told the newspaper.
On April 1, BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur had informed the media that a call on India's next coach would be taken by Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman.
Shastri took charge of the Indian team in 2014 after MS Dhoni and co's abject display in the Test series against England.
Under Shastri, the ODI team made it to the semi-final stage of two ICC events and the Test team beat Sri Lanka and South Africa.
