Schedule and Updates of Karnataka Premier League (KPL) 2016

Champions Bijapur Bulls will open their title defence of Karnataka Premier League (KPL) Twenty20 tournament when they take on the Rock Stars team at Mysuru's Srikantadatta Narasimha Raja Wadeyar Ground on September 16.

The fixtures for the 5th edition of KPL tournament, were drawn on Thursday (September 1). The honour of playing the opening tie of this year's edition went to Bellary Tuskers and Belagavi Panthers who will clash in the inaugural match slated for 1:30 PM. This will be followed by the Bijapur Bulls versus Rockstars match.

The first leg of the tournament which features a minimum of 2 matches each day, at 1.30 PM and 5.30 PM, will be held in Mysuru from September 16 to 25. There would be an additional match at 9.30 AM on Saturdays in Mysuru.

The KPL caravan then moves to the KSCA Stadium in Rajnagar, Hubbali for the second phase from September 27 to October 1 when the final will be contested at 5.30 PM. The designated rest day for the tournament would be September 26.

All matches of the Karbonn KPL 2016 will be telecast live on Sony Six.

Brad Haddin to mentor Mysuru Warriors team during KPL 2016


Brad Haddin, the former Australia wicketkeeper, has been appointed as mentor of the Mysuru Warriors team for the upcoming Karbonn Karnataka Premier League (KPL), 2016, a KPL media release stated.

Haddin, who retired from One Day Internationals (ODIs) at the conclusion of the ICC World Cup 2015, announced his Test retirement following the 2015 Ashes series in England. He played for Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League 2015-16, while he also represented Islamabad United in the maiden edition of the Pakistan Super League in February 2016.

Haddin, who is the first overseas cricketer to be associated with a KPL team, is expected to bring in valuable inputs to the team, stated Arjun Ranga, owner of Mysuru Warriors and Managing Director of Cycle Pure Agarbathies.

"We are delighted to have Mr. Haddin on board as a mentor for Mysuru Warriors in the upcoming KPL. We are sure that his experience in the international arena will bring a lot of exposure to our players, and will help them reach the next level," Ranga said.

Mysuru Warriors, who clinched the KPL trophy in 2014, were below par in the previous season, managing only two wins to finish seventh, just one spot above the Rockstars.

Manish Pandey and J Suchith are the star attractions in the Mysuru line-up, which also has plenty of talented names.

The fifth season of KPL gets underway on September 16, with the first round of matches being held in Mysuru. The home team face off against Mangalore United in their opening game on September 17.
