The Supreme Court of India nominated former CAG Vinod Rai, Ramachandra Guha, Vikram Limaye and former captain of the women’s cricket team Diana Edulji as administrators who will look after the day-to-day functioning of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and ensure the smooth implementation of the Lodha panel’s proposals.

In another big development, the apex court rejected the Centre's plea to appoint Secretary of Sports Ministry as one of the administrators while referring to its earlier judgement debarring ministers and government servants from holding office in BCCI.

The Supreme Court also said that BCCI joint-secretary Amitabh Chaudhary and newly appointed BCCI administrator Vikram Limaye will represent the board at the ICC meeting in first week of February. Anirudh Chaudhary of BCCI shall be the third member to represent Indian Cricket Board at ICC meeting.

The Supreme Court on January 2 removed president Anurag Thakur and secretary Ajay Shirke.

Here’s a short introduction of four members:

-Vinod Rai is a 1972 batch Kerala cadre officer of Indian Administrative Service (IAS) who holds a master’s degree in Economics from the Delhi University and Masters in Public Administration from Harvard University. He was the 11th Comptroller and Auditor General of India. He currently holds the chairman position of UN Panel of External Auditors and Honorary Advisor to the Railways and a member of the Railway Kaya Kalp Council. Rai started his career as the sub-collector of Thrissur District. Later, he became the Collector and spent his eight years of career in Thrissur City. He was called the second Sakthan Thampuran for his role in the development of the Thrissur City.

Prior to his appointment as CAG, he served as Secretary, Financial Services and Additional Secretary in the Banking Division including banks and insurance companies under Ministry of Finance. Rai is known for having turned the office of CAG into a powerful force for accountability and transparency in contemporary India and he is widely considered as the symbol of the anti-corruption movement.

-Ramachandra Guha is a historian and biographer based in Bangalore. He has taught at the universities of Yale and Stanford, held the Arné Naess Chair at the University of Oslo, and been the Indo-American Community Visiting Professor at the University of California at Berkeley. He graduated from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi with a BA in Economics in 1977 and completed a Master’s from the Delhi School of Economics. He then enrolled at the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta, where he did a fellowship programme (equivalent to a PhD) on the social history of forestry in Uttarakhand. He is also a columnist for The Telegraph and Hindustan Times.

A regular contributor to various academic journals, Guha has also written for The Caravan and Outlook magazines. In the academic year 2011-12, he served as the Philippe Roman Professor of History and International Affairs at the London School of Economics. Ramachandra Guha’s awards include the Leopold-Hidy Prize of the American Society for Environmental History, the Daily Telegraph/Cricket Society prize, the Malcolm Adideshiah Award for excellence in social science research, the Ramnath Goenka Prize for excellence in journalism, the Sahitya Akademi Award, and the R. K. Narayan Prize. In 2009, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan, the Republic of India’s third highest civilian honour.

-Vikram Limaye is the Managing Director & CEO of IDFC Limited. He completed his Bachelors in Commerce from HR College of Commerce & Economics, Chartered Accountancy and an MBA in Finance and Multinational Management from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, USA. Limaye started his professional career in 1987 with Arthur Andersen in Mumbai and simultaneously pursued his Chartered Accountancy and worked in the audit and business advisory services groups of Arthur Andersen, Ernst & Young and the consumer banking group of Citibank.

He then went to the US in 1994 to pursue an MBA. After completing his MBA, he spent 8 years working on Wall Street in the USA with Credit Suisse First Boston in a variety of roles in investment banking, capital markets, structured finance and credit portfolio management before returning to Mumbai, India in 2004. He has been a speaker at various domestic and international conferences and been part of international government delegations for infrastructure and foreign direct investments into India.

– Diana Fram Edulji , who was born in Mumbai, is a former Indian women’s Test cricketer. Before migrating to cricket, Edulji played basketball and table tennis at the junior national level. Diana started her official cricket career with the Railways and then she made it to Indian national cricket team where she played a role of the slow left-arm orthodox bowler. She played her first series in 1975 and in 1978 she was handed the captaincy of the Indian team. In 2013 Diana Edulji slammed BCCI for not taking Women’s cricket seriously and urged the BCCI to take drastic steps to improve women’s cricket in the country.

With 120 wickets, she remains the highest wicket taker of the game. Edulji was surrounded by controversy when in 1986 she was denied entry to the Lord’s Pavilion while captaining India on their tour of England. She cleverly remarked that the MCC (Marylebone Cricket Club) should change its name to MCP (“male chauvinist pigs”). Edulji is said to be the greatest Indian woman cricketer of all time and she received India’s then greatest sports honour award, the Arjuna Award in 1983. She was also awarded the civilian honour of Padma Shri in 2002.
