Mumbai, Jan 6: Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt will
be released from Yerwada jail on February 25
after completing his five-year term. He will be
released nearly three and a half months before
completing his sentence. Dutt who was
scheduled to be released on October 25, 2016 will
be now released on February 25, 2016. The early
release is a remittance for good behaviour while
serving his term at Yerwada jail.
As per Maharashtra jail manual, every prisoner is
allowed 30 days of remittance every year for his
good conduct apart from furlough and parole.
Supreme Court upheld Dutt’s conviction in 2013.
He was sentenced to a 5-year imprisonment by
the apex court after he was convicted in the 1993
blasts case for possession an illegal weapon.
His early release was delayed due to his delay in
returning to jail after being granted a 14 days
furlough in December 2014.After which the Home
Department served a memo to Yerwada officials
for delay in decision on his plea. However, later a
clean chit was given to Dutt. (Also Read: Sanjay

Case against Dutt was earlier registered at the
Mahim police station after which it was
transferred to Central Bureau of Investigation in
New Delhi. A special court under the Terrorist and
Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act then
sentenced him to six years of imprisonment on
July 31, 2007. However, his term was reduced to
five years after a petition was immediately filed by
the actor against TADA post which the apex Court
modified and reduced it to five years on March 21,
