SEOUL: South Korea's Samsung
Electronics Co Ltd plans to launch a
new sub-$100 smartphone running on
its own Tizen operating system in
India later this month, South Korea's
Maeil Business Newspaper said.

The paper, a local business daily,
said Samsung will hold a press
conference on December 10 to
launch its first Tizen smartphone, to
be called the Z1. A Samsung
Electronics spokeswoman declined to
comment.

Samsung had initially planned to
launch a Tizen smartphone in Russia
in the third quarter but scrapped the
plan. The firm said at the time that it
wanted to further enhance the
ecosystem behind Tizen. Only a
handful of devices, including the
firm's smartwatch products, currently
run on the platform.

The majority of Samsung's mobile
devices are based on Google's
Android platform. The South Korean
firm's push to develop its own
operating system is part of efforts to
reduce dependence on the US firm,
but delays in product launches have
undercut expectations.

its difficult for samsung to create a market for its tizen based mobile phones. i can't predict future but yes in starting months these handsets will struggle without the unavailability of popular android and ios apps. few years back samsung launched Bada OS in the market against google's android. but due to lack of applications n developers of Bada OS, it was a big fail in front of Android. Bada Os fails to sustain itself in the market of android and soon after 1 or 2 years samsung closed its manufacturing.

moreover the worst thing about samsung handsets is its 512 mb RAM. with the installation of 4-5 apps, phones becomes too slow in processing. Micromax, Lava, Karbonn like companies are providing 1 GB RAM in its handsets below Rs 6,000

If Samsung wants to be less dependent from Android, It must first strengthen their own app store. Bcoz of Play Store only Android is popular.
