Tata Motors and Samsung have entered into a collaboration under which the South Korean electronics major will provide in-car infotainment systems to the Indian auto maker.

Tata Motors would launch passenger vehicles next year equipped with Samsung's 'Drive Link Application' on MirrorLink technology that will help driver to navigate, answer calls and access Internet and music.

"We will introduce passenger cars in the market equipped with the technology within the next year," Tata Motors Passengers Vehicles Unit President Ranjit Yadav told PTI on the sidelines of the Auto Expo.

He said the company is looking at making the system available to its volume segment cars and not necessarily restrict it only to more expensive vehicles like Safari or Aria.

Tata Motors and Samsung have been working jointly for last six months on this project.

"This is in our line of philosophy to offer new features to our customers to create differentiated products features that are relevant to the present and scalable for the future," he added.

Samsung has a global collaboration with the German auto major BMW for the same and the partnership with Tata Motors is its first in India.

"Samsung is also a mass market brand and this is a good partnership. Tis technology will provide connectivity to the user while on drive," Samsung India Electronics Ltd, Head - Business and Enterprise Sameer Garde said.

Drive Link is an application which is designed to use smart phones and tablets while on move. The feature will also offer on-board diagnostics and vehicle lifestyle management information.
