Samsung Nexus 10, LG Nexus 4 and Asus Nexus 7 3G to be unveiled at Google’s Android event on Oct 29
Google is hosting an Android event on October 29, which is the same day as Microsoft is organizing its Windows Phone 8 launch event. While we know that we will see the next Nexus smartphone, called the Nexus 4 by LG, at the event, The Next Web has received details of more devices that will see the day of light. The biggest one would be Samsung’s 10-inch tablet, codenamed “Manta” that will reportedly have a 300 pixel per inch (ppi) display, which will be sharper than that on the latest iPad. Also on the menu is a 32GB variant of the Asus Nexus 7 tablet with 3G connectivity. Google is also expected to launch a small update to Android Jelly Bean that will be called Key Lime Pie (Android 4.2). Read on for details.
The Samsung Nexus tablet will feature a 10-inch 2560×1600 pixel resolution display with a pixel density close to 300 ppi. This would compete with the latest iPad that has a 264 ppi display. The Asus Nexus 7 will also get a 32GB variant with another variant that will support 3G connectivity. Everything we have heard about the LG Nexus 4 seems to be legit including its Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor and the 4.7-inch display with 1280×768 pixel resolution. It too will run on the latest version of Android.
Android 4.2 will bring some much sought after feature including a ‘Tablet Sharing’ mode that will allow users to have multiple logins and get access to only their individual content. This will be beneficial in situations where one tablet is shared between multiple users. Another feature, ‘Content in the center’, will allow users access Google Play content from a widget. It will also bring an iOS 6 inspired panorama mode that will also allow users to take panorama shots is portrait mode apart from the default landscape mode.
Android Key Lime Pie sounds to be a minor update over Jelly Bean but the new features seem to be something users have been asking for a while and Google is all set to deliver it. The only question that remains is how many non-Nexus devices will get this update by the end of the year. We won’t get our hopes really high as many vendors are still struggling to deliver Jelly Bean updates to their products.
