Samsung Electronics on Tuesday launched user interface in nine Indian languages for smartphone and tablet users in the country. The Indian languages will be supported on Galaxy Grand, Galaxy S4 and Tab 3. The languages include Hindi, Punjabi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi and Gujarati, Samsung said in a statement.

Samsung plans to enhance the availability of regional language content to its affordable smart phone range starting with Galaxy Star later in August. The number of languages being offered too will be increased.

This initiative will enable consumers to access applications from the Samsung Application Store in their language in various categories ranging from entertainment, games, utility, lifestyle, devotional and business. Users can get experience in their own language by using Chaton, Facebook, Gmail and Newshunt on select Samsung devices.

Vineet Taneja, country head, Samsung Mobile and IT , Samsung Indiasaid in a statement, "Availability of content combined with easy access is the key driver for usage of any language. We sense a need and a demand amongst users to communicate in local languages using their mobile devices."

Kiran Karnik, chairman, National Committee on Telecom and & Broadband , CII said, "a ccess to regional language content will not only give a strong fillip to data consumption on the mobile platform, but will empower millions of Indians who are not fluent in English. The industry as a whole needs to take this initiative forward with the developers creating good quality content, service providers giving attractive packages to boost data consumption and manufacturers improving the overall mobile experience. I see Indian mobile telephony on the threshold of a new wave, driven by not only data consumption in English but in regional languages as well."

""We are very excited that Facebook for Android and Facebook Messenger on Samsung smartphones will now support nine Indian languages. This is an excellent opportunity to help bring millions of Indians online via Facebook through these collaborative efforts."" said Kevin D'souza, Country Growth Manager, Facebook India.
