Confirmed: Samsung Galaxy S4 to be launched in India on 26 April
Samsung’s new flagship device, the Galaxy S4, will be launched in India on 26 April. Samsung has started sending out media invites for the event which will take place in Delhi.
Previously IBNLive had reported that the phone would be available for less than Rs 40,000 online, while its MRP will be around Rs 42,000.
If the S4 is indeed made available for around Rs 40k, that will make it cheaper than the HTC One which was launched in this month in India for Rs 42,900.
In terms of specifications, the Galaxy S4 has 2 GB RAM, a full HD AMOLED display with a five-inch screen and a pixel density of 441 pixels per inch. The screen resolution is 1920×1080 pixels.
There are 32 and 64 GB versions of the smartphone with a microSD card slot which has a 64GB limit. It has a removable 2600 mAh battery. S4 has eight sensors, which includes the usual acceleromter, Digital compass, Gyrometer etc. The new sensors are the IR Gesture sensor aka the infrared LED for remote control functions, which allows users to turn their smartphone into a remote for their TV and a sensor for temperature and humidity control.
In terms of processor, the S4 has 1.9Ghz quad-core Snapdragon processor and there is another version with a 1.6 octa-core (eight core) processor. India is most likely to get the octa-core processor version of the device. The device runs Android 4.2.2. version of Jelly Bean overlaid with Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface.
The device also supports 4G LTE and Samsung is launching two versions of the phone — 4G and 3G. The device also supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC. The rear camera is 13 megapixels while the front one is 2 megapixels.
