Samsung has launched its Galaxy C9 Pro smartphone in India. The smartphone is available for pre-booking from January 27, and will start shipping next month. Priced at Rs 36,900, the Galaxy C9 Pro is the first Samsung smartphone to come with 6GB of RAM. It is available in two colors, black and gold.

The Galaxy C9 Pro had launched in Chin a in October last year, and is already available in countries like Bangladesh, Thailand, and Malaysia among others, where it is priced around the Rs 31,000 mark. The smartphone was expected to be similarly priced in India as well, where it would compete with the likes of OnePlus 3 and LeEco LeMax 2 . However, at Rs 36,900, the Galaxy C9 Pro will also be competing against in the higher tier of premium smartphones.

With a 6-inch display, the Galaxy C9 Pro is also likely to target the big screen enthusiasts. Additionally, performance will be good thanks to the Snapdragon 653 SoC, which boasts of four ARM Cortex-A72 CPUs to 1.95GHz and four ARM Cortex-A53 CPUs to 1.44GHz, along with the improved Adreno 510 GPU.

Although it is an upgrade over the Snapdragon 652 SoC, the 653 is still a mid-range SoC which does not perform at the same level as the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 and 821 SoCs. And with these specifications at a price of Rs 37,000, the Samsung Galaxy C9 Pro has a distinct disadvantage over the likes of the Lenovo Z2 Plus, LeEco LeMax2 and OnePlus 3T, all of which are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 or 821 SoCs, and are priced much lower.

Samsung Galaxy C9 Pro Specifications

The Samsung Galaxy C9 Pro comes with a 6-inch full HD (1080p) Super AMOLED display with 2.5D curved glass on top. It is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 653 octa-core chipset paired with Adreno 510 GPU and 6GB RAM. There is also 64GB onboard storage, which is expandable up to 256GB using a microSD card.

For photography, the phablet features a 16-megapixel rear camera with f/1.9 aperture, dual-tone LED flash and 1080p video recording capabilities. It also has a 16-megapixel front-facing camera with f/1.9 aperture. The phablet also is powered by a 4,000mAh battery, fingerprint sensor embedded into the home button, and Cirrus HiFi Codec for better audio performance.

Connectivity options include dual-SIM card slots, 4G LTE support, USB Type-C port, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.2 and GPS. On the software front, the phablet runs on Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 out-of-the-box wrapped under TouchWiz UI.
