India's women badminton stars
suffered mixed fortunes in the China
Open badminton on Thursday. While
top seed Saina Nehwal struggled into
the quarterfinals, unseeded PV
Sindhu was not so lucky against an
opponent, seeded fifth in the

Jing Yi in three tough games. The
Indian champion won 21-10, 19-21
and 21-19. Saina had won her first
round match against China's Sun Yu
22-20 and 21-18. Saina will play
Japanese Nozomi Okuhara, who has
had a smooth sailing to the last eight
stage of the tournament so far.
PV Sindhu stretched Chinese star
Wang Shixian to three games in a
match that lasted 88 minutes. With a
4-3 win-loss record against Wang,
Sidhu won the first game 21-18. The
Chinese came back strongly in the
second, winning 21-18 and wrapped
up the match by winning the third
21-16.
