Former Indian cricketers Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman have been roped in by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in their advisory committee, which will help the Indian cricket board to select the coach for the national side.
Duncan Fletcher, who had replaced Gary Kirsten as the Indian coach after the end of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, had his contract only till the end of the last edition of the World Cup held in Australia and New Zealand earlier this year.
The inclusion of former cricketers is certainly a big move as India head into a critical phase wherein their Test team will be captained by a young Virat Kohli, while the venerable Mahendra Singh Dhoni will continue to lead in the shorter formats.
Ganguly’s presence in the advisory committee may serve as a hint that the former captain will not be taking the role of the Indian coach or even as the director of the national cricket team.
