In a first of the kind of a case in the country, the hackers have stolen the billing data of the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN), one of the two power discoms of Haryana and have demanded Rs One crore in form of bitcoins from the state government to retrieve the data.

Sources said that UHBVN which is monitoring electricity billings of nine districts of the state (Panchkula, Ambala, Kurukshetra, Karnal, Panipat, Yamunanagar, Sonepat, Kaithal and Rohtak) came under cyber attack at 12.17 AM after midnight on March 21 and thus the billing data of thousands of consumers had been hacked as the IT wing of the nigam was target.

The loss of data means that the UHVBN would not have any record of power bills of the consumers besides records of the arrears.

It is learnt that recently there had been complaints from the consumers that the discom had been sending them inflated bills.

For every data on cloud, they always keep 2-3 back ups. Google/MSFT/Amazon maintain all those backup data on different server in different countries, So I am sure there will be 2-3 aadhaar back up also

So hacking that data is easier 2-3 times.Btw not every data is kept in redundant. They may keep tape backup though.

Not really unless you have the decryption key of those cloud data. A lock in your home is there only to prevent a thief to enter for about 5-6 minutes, after that that time he can easily enter by breaking that so nothing is invincible.

As per presentation given in supreme court it was stated that aadhar data storage is offline and not connected to internet.
If Aadhar data is stored offline only. Then how we are able to access it online? Or, how do telecom operators verify Aadhar?

Iam not taking about backup of lost data.Iam telling that those data can be misused if falled in wrong hands.

If your house lock getted picked in 5-6 min.Try better one.

BTW cloud hacking is nothing new. Apple cloud is hacked quite frequently. A lot of people enjoy the content as well😋
