The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has cleared India’s tour to Zimbabwe and announced the Indian team, thus putting all speculation to rest over the fate of the tour and relieving official broadcaster Ten Sports of a lot of worry.

The BCCI was reportedly reluctant to send its team to Zimbabwe since the series was being broadcast on Subhash Chandra-promoted ZEEL’s Ten Sports.

After much deliberation, the BCCI finally decided to send a ‘B’ team for the tour, citing player fatigue. The 15-member squad will be led by Ajinkya Rahane as senior members like MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli and R Ashwin have been rested.

Harbhajan Singh and Robin Uthappa have been recalled into the team. This will come as a dampener for Ten Sports as the absence of big names will have an impact on viewership.

Following media reports of the BCCI pulling out of the tour, Zimbabwe Cricket issued a statement saying that it was in constant contact with both the BCCI and Ten Sports to resolve the issues before the series.

“There have been reports that an issue over Zimbabwe Cricket’s broadcasting partner is threatening the forthcoming India tour to Zimbabwe.

The position is that ZC is in constant contact with both the BCCI and Ten Sports, over issues which should be resolved before the tour,” ZC chairperson Wilson Manase had said in a statement.
