Reliance Jio partners with Niantic to bring Pokemon Go to India

Reliance Jio Infocomm on Tuesday said that it has partnered with Niantic, the company that has published and developed the augmented reality game Pokémon GO in association with The Pokémon Company, to launch Pokémon GO in India.

The partnership will enable Jio SIM customers to download and play Pokémon GO without incurring data charges till March 31, 2017 as part of Jio's Happy New Year Offer.

This association will also make Reliance Digital Stores and Jio retail locations and charging stations into ‘PokéStops ’ or ‘Gyms’ in the Pokémon GO game beginning Wednesday, December 14, 2016.

“Our partnership with Niantic helps our customers to enjoy content on Jio’s mobile broadband network,” Mathew Oommen, President​, Reliance Jio, said in a statement.

On JioChat, Pokémon players will have access to an exclusive Pokémon Go Channel to enable Pokémon Go players to collaborate and be part of a community of players with daily tips, contests and clues.
