Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd (RJIL), the telecom arm of Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL), is ready with the content for its digital media apps.

The company has plans to launch four apps, namely an entertainment app called Jio Play, a music streaming app called Jio Beats, a magazine app called Jio Mags and a news app called Jio News.

Jio Play will have over 300 TV channels, including 30+ HD channels across 15+ languages and 10+ genres. The service will offer seven-day catch-up TV.

It will also allow users to mark favourites, pause and play, quick discovery and personalisation.

“Content deals have been signed but there are certain channels of networks that are not yet carried because of equipment, etc.

The TV channels will go up to 360 by the end of next month,” an industry source said.

It will also have a video-on-demand service called Jio On Demand featuring premium, curated ad-free HD movies, TV shows, trailers and short videos featuring more than one lakh hours of content in multiple languages and genres.

The company claims that the app will buffer free and adjust automatically for the best available network speed.

Jio Beats will have millions of HD songs spanning 20 Indian languages and international music.

It will offer seamless connection to wireless devices, wearable devices and Bluetooth speakers besides one-touch radio with ad-free content curated by experts.

Jio Mags will have a vast library of 5,000+ magazine issues across 15+ categories and 10 languages.

The app will have life-like reading and personalised annotations. It will allow synchronisation across devices.

The news app will feature 500+ content publishers and 1,600+ news sources.

The company claims that the news app will offer clutter-free, personalised news reading from major news publishers in 11 languages.

Users will be able to save articles for reading later and even in offline mode.

Jio News will auto download newspaper editions covering 200+ city editions daily. Users can flip newspapers and clip portions for later viewing.

The app will allow text to speech and copy, highlight and search within newspaper articles.

As reported earlier by TelevisionPost.com, Reliance Jio is “moving towards complete readiness” to commercially launch its 4G services.

During the quarter ended 30 June, RJIL had over 1.5 million test users on its network.

The average monthly consumption per user is in excess of 26 GB and the number is increasing rapidly.

Average voice usage per month is over 355 minutes.

The test programme will be progressively upgraded into commercial operations in the coming months.
