A Credit Suisse report indicates that Reliance Digital stores in Mumbai are preparing to launch Jio 4G sim cards soon. Credit Suisse bases this report on the fact that store personnel have apparently been trained in the issuing of Jio sim cards, managing documents and ID proof, etc.

The report indicates that the stores are possibly preparing for a soft launch. Training aside, the stores have also reportedly been equipped with “infrastructure that allows for quick enrollment.” Preparations have been made to scan ID cards and other relevant documents directly, rather than have documents transported.

It’s also been reported that the SIMS will initially be offered for Rs 200, offering free data and voice packs. These will be valid for three months and Credit Suisse says that tariffs post that period are unknown at this time. It’s also not known if one can purchase a standalone SIM or if a Lyf handset will be required before purchase. SIM cards have already been stockpiled at the stores, but personnel are uninformed with regards to the launch date. Employees were apparently offered 75GB of data and 4500 minutes of local calls when the SIMs were offered to them in December .

Disclaimer: Reliance Jio is owned by Reliance Industries, who also own Network18, the publisher of Firstpost and tech2
