After launching the LYF Water 3 back in December, Reliance Digital has quietly launched a new smartphone under its LYF series, called the LYF Water 7S. The smartphone is a smaller version of the Water 7, which was launched back in June 2016. The smartphone is priced at Rs 7,499 and is available in black, gold and white color variants.

In terms of design the LYF Water 7S looks similar to the Water 7 but with few minor changes. The Water 7S now has a textured design on the back which was missing from the Water 7. Additionally, Reliance has also equipped the smartphone with the new Happy new Year offer which will be available to users for free till March 2017. As a part of this offer, users get access to unlimited free voice and video calls across India, and unlimited high-speed 4G data (daily limit 1GB). If a user crosses the 1GB per day limit, their data speeds will be reduced to 128Kbps for the rest of the day, and normal speeds will resume after12:00AM. Subscribers also get access to unlimited free local and national SMS messages, and Jio’s full suite of apps which includes the likes of JioPlay, JioOnDemand, JioBeats, JioXpressNews, JioSecurity, JioDrive, JioMags and JioMoney among others.

The smartphone flaunts a at a 5.5-inch full HD display with a pixel density of 400ppi. Under the hood runs a 1.3GHz octa-core processor paired with 3GB of RAM. Also on offer is 16GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded via microSD card up to 64GB.

On the camera front, the smartphone sports a 13-megapixel rear facing camera with LED flash and a 5-megapixel front facing selfie camera. Other camera features include Digital Zoom 6X (Rear & Front), Auto-Focus, Multi-Angle View Mode, Auto-Scene Detection, Face Detection, Video Snapshot, Smile Shot and Gesture Capture. It also records videos in 1080p at 30 frames per second. The Lyf Water 7S comes with sensors like Accelerometer, Ambient Light Sensor and Proximity Sensor.

On the connectivity front the smartphone supports LTE Cat 4, 3G HSPA+, Wi-Fi: 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth: v4.1, GPS, Micro USB 2.0 Port, USB OTG, 3.5mm Audio jack and FM Radio. The smartphone comes with 2,800mAh battery that the company says is good enough to deliver 5 hours of HD video payback, 6 hours of talk time on 4G and standby time of up to 400 hours. The LYF Water 7S runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow out-of-the-box.

In comparison, the LYF Water 7 comes with a 5.5-inch (1920×1080 pixels) full HD IPS LCD display . It is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon octa-core 64-bit processor paired with 2GB of RAM. Also on offer is 16GB internal storage, which can be further expanded up to 128GB using a microSD card. On the photography front, the smartphone sports a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front camera with 88-degree wide angle view. The LYF Water 7 is backed by a 3,000mAh battery, and comes with connectivity options like 4G LTE with VoLTE support, dual-SIM card slots, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

At this price range the smartphone will compete with the likes of InFocus Bingo 50+ and Coolpad Mega 2.5D. The smartphones are priced at Rs 7,499 and Rs 6,999 respectively. The InFocus Bingo 50+ comes with 5.5-inch HD display, 1.3GHz MediaTek MT6753 octa-core processor paired with 3GB of RAM, 16GB internal storage, expandable up to 64GB, 13-megapixel rear camera, an 8-megapixel front-facing camera, 2,600mAh battery, VoLTE, LTE, dual-SIM, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS.

The Coolpad Mega 2.5D on the other hand comes with a 5.5-inch IPS HD (1280×720pixels) display with pixel density of 294ppi and a 2.5D curved glass on top. Running on Android Marshmallow 6.0 with a layer of Coolpad’s Cool UI 8.0 on top, the smartphone is powered by a MediaTek MT67355P 64-bit quad-core chipset clocked at 1GHz and is paired with 3GB of RAM. With 16GB internal storage, the smartphone also features a microSD card slot with support for up to 32GB is also present. It also comes with an 8-megapixel selfie camera and rear camera. On the connectivity front, the Coolpad Mega 2.5D features dual SIM 4G LTE with support for VoLTE voice calling, Wi-Fi 802.11n, GPS and Bluetooth 4.0. It is armed with a 2,500mAh battery.
