There may still be no word on when Reliance is planning on a commercial launch for its Jio 4G network, but in the meantime Reliance Digital’s LYF series of smartphones continues to steadily grow. The latest smartphone to launch belongs to the Water series, called Water 10. The smartphone is priced at Rs 8,699, and will be available from Reliance Digital, Digital Xpress mini and other local retail stores.

As is the norm, the LYF Water 10 will be bundled with a free Jio SIM card. Buyers will be able to enjoy Jio’s preview offer for a period of 90 days that gives them access to unlimited data, calls, messaging and Jio’s suite of apps like JioPlay, JioOnDemand, JioBeats, JioMags, JioXpressNews, JioDrive, JioSecurity and JioMoney among others. Just like every LYF smartphone, the USP of the Water 10 is also the support for VoLTE HD voice calling. The smartphone also comes with a ‘Anti-Theft’ feature that lets you remotely access the device in case it is stolen. You can remotely lock the device or wipe it clean to avoid anyone compromising your private data. But, well, even Google provides that feature by default on every Android smartphone.

Reliance Digital LYF Water 10 specifications

The smartphone sports a 5-inch HD (1280×720 pixels) IPS LCD display with 294ppi and Dongxu Glass protection. Under the hood is a 1.3GHz MediaTek MT6753 octa-core chipset paired with MaliT720 GPU and 3GB of RAM. It comes with 16GB of internal memory that can be expanded up to 64GB using a microSD card.

In the photography department, the Water 10 is equipped with a 13-megapixel auto-focus camera with two-tone flash and 1080p video recording capabilities. Up front, there is a 5-megapixel selfie camera. The smartphone is backed by a 2,300mAh battery that the company says is good enough to survive up to seven hours of calling, and up to 150 hours on standby mode.

Connectivity options include dual-SIM card slots capable of housing two micro SIMs. While both SIM card slots support 4G, only one SIM card can be used for 4G at one time, while the other will work on 2G. The rest of the connectivity options include VoLTE support, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and USB OTG. On the software front, the Water 10 runs on Android Lollipop 5.1.

Priced at Rs 8,699, Reliance Digital’s LYF Water 10 is placed in a highly competitive price segment. At this price range, users can choose from the likes of the Xiaomi Redmi 3s Prime and the Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus to name a few.

Both the Xiaomi Redmi 3s Prime and the Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus feature metal bodies, something that is missing on the LYF Water 10. Though all three feature the same sized screens, the Vibe K5 Plus has the advantage of a full HD resolution display. Though all three smartphones are closely matched in terms of the specifications and features, the Redmi 3s Prime has the advantage of a fingerprint scanner and a massive 4,100mAh battery underneath.
