MUMBAI: Reliance Big Animation CEO Ashish Kulkarni has put in his papers after a stint of nine years in the organisation.

Confirming the news to TelevisionPost.com, Kulkarni said, “Yes, I have put in my papers and currently I am in the hand-over process.

” Kulkarni is also co-chairman of the FICCI Animation and Gaming forum and active council member of the Media and Entertainment Skills Council (MESC) formed by FICCI under the National Skills Development Council (NSDC).

Pioneering various projects in animation, Kulkarni was credited with setting up world-class animation studios in India, and successfully completing and marketing several animation films for studios in Hollywood.

A feather in his cap was the award-winning film ‘Little Krishna’ which was the first high-end 3D TV series from Big Animation.

The film was also the first-ever animation content produced out of India and beamed through Nickelodeon (India).

Kulkarni also created original Indian IPs like the feature film ‘Krishna Aur Kans’, animated TV series ‘Shaktimaan’, ‘Big Bees’ and short film ‘The Bad Egg’ among others.

In a career spanning 26 years, Kulkarni worked in the media and food industry, the white goods segment, industrial fibres and the animation industry.

Earlier in 2013, the Open International University of Complementary Medicines, Colombo, awarded him an honorary ‘Doctorate in Business Management’ for his work in the field of animation and effort to build an ecosystem for the animation, gaming, visual effects and comics (AVGC) sector in India, placing India on the global map.

The university conferred the honour at its 51st Honorary Doctorate Convocation Function in Malaysia.

Before joining Reliance Animation, Kulkarni had started his own Pune-based animation company Anirights Infomedia in 2005, which was later acquired by Reliance Entertainment in 2008.
