In a move to encounter the unlimited voice calling packs of Reliance Jio which will come into effect from 1 January 2017, provided Jio doesn’t extends its ‘Welcome Offer’, RCom has already launched its unlimited voice calling plans.

With plans starting from Rs. 149 Data Combo pack unlimited voice calling pack bundled with 300 MB 4G data having a validity of 28 days, Reliance Communications is offering truly unlimited voice calls to any phone in India (mobile/landline, local/STD).

As of now these plans are available only to RCom prepaid users across the nation. These Data combo plans offerring unlimited voice calls start from Rs. 149 and go all the way up to Rs. 499. These plans also offer free incoming calls during national roaming, but do not offer unlimited SMS like Jio tariff plans.

Reliance Communications Data Combo Packs
Plan Voucher Amount 4G Data Validity
Data Combo 149 Rs. 149 300 MB 28 days
Data Combo 299 Rs. 299 2 GB 21 days
Data Combo 499 Rs. 499 4 GB 28 days
All packs offer unlimited voice calls (local and national) and free incoming calls during roaming.

Jio or RCom? Which One Should You Opt For?

Assuming that the Jio network would be not facing call failure issues like it is facing now, although to a much lesser extent than the past, from 1 January 2017 we should consider the following facts before making a decision:

Along with unlimited voice calls to any phone in India even during roaming, Jio offers 100 free SMS for 28 days with the entry level Rs. 149 pack, and unlimited SMS (capped to 100/day by the govt.) with Rs. 299 and Rs. 499 tariff plans.

On the other hand, Reliance Communications only offers similar data benefits as Jio with zero free SMS. “Similar” because RCom would not be offering double data on WiFi usage. Also unlike RCom, Jio would not be charging its users for voice calls they make on blackout days (Diwali, New Year, etc.)

Another important fact to be considered while making the decision should be the underlying technology. Jio provides HD calls via VoLTE, which offers crystal clear voice calls which connects almost instantly. RCom can’t offer HD calls yet as it doesn’t have a VoLTE network.

So, if you have a 4G VoLTE supported phone then it would be wiser to choose Jio over RCom. However, if you do not have a VoLTE supported phone and don’t plan on buying one in near future, then you should switch to Reliance Communications.

Choose wisely!

RCom unveils Rs 149 bucket plan offering unlimited voice calls with 300 MB of data

Reliance Communications launched a bucket plan Tuesday offering unlimited voice calls bundled with 300 MB of data for a flat Rs 149 in a clear market expansion bid, primarily targeting the sizeable pool of 2G users.

Christened `149 Unlimited’, the calling plan offers customers unlimited outgoing talk-time to any phone across any telecom network in the country, including STD calls, for Rs 149 a month.

RCom’s Rs 149 bucket plan resembles a similar Jio tariff plan, but can be activated on any phone – 2G, 3G , or 4G -- unlike Jio’s, which requires a 4G VoLTE handset.4G VoLTE handset.

“The new unlimited plan is set to change the dynamics of mobile recharges in India, as customers move away from a traditional revenue per minute tariff model to a service subscription model based on ARPU,” said RCom’s co-CEO, Gurdeep Singh in an official statement.RCom’s co-CEO, Gurdeep Singh in an official statement.

The new tariff plan went live in 17 RCom circles, and will not be available in the five eastern markets -- West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha, Assam and Northeast -- Bihar, Odisha, Assam and Northeast -- where where the telco does not have 2G airwaves.

The ‘149 Unlimited’ Plan, which will be available across 2G, 3G and 4G technology platforms, is targeted at incentivising 2G, 3G and 4G phone owners to migrate to RCom.

According to Singh, “there are hundreds of millions of older 2G handset-owners in India, and RCom is positioning the new bucket plan of unlimited voice calls with 300 MB of data to get them hooked to data”.

Regardless of the type of feature phone or smartphone used, RCom customers can make unlimited voice calls, including STD calls for a month to any phone on any network in India.
