A good news for all who care for the environment and also for their expenditure. Recently, the Regional transport office and Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) have approved the use of CNG kits in scooters in the city. Delhi was the first Indian city that adopted the use of CNG kits in scooters.

The MNGL Officials stated that the use of CNG is increasing in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad. Besides public transport vehicles, like buses and autorickshaws, private car owners are also opting for eco-friendly fuel. Five scooters, fitted with CNG kits were flagged off from a BPCL petrol pump that is situated in front of the RTO office. The Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) kit has a capacity of 2 kg of gas. With this, the scooter can run a total of 60 kms per kg of CNG. At the event, the officials of the RTO and Maharashtra were present. MNGL also launched a CNG refill point at the same petrol pump.

A company’s official said that the development of CNG kits took 6 to 7 years. The kit is safe and has been properly tested. The company’s CNG kit has also been certified by ARAI. The scooters fitted with the above said CNG kit can also run on petrol. For this, a switch is installed in the scooter with the help of which the rider can toggle between petrol mode and CNG mode. The cost of the entire kit is INR 16,500.
