Pragyan Ojha banned from bowling due toillegal bowling action

Indian spinner Pragyan Ojha has been banned
from bowling in competitve cricket after his
bowling action was deemed illegal by the
International Cricket Council(ICC).

Acting on directives of the Hyderabad Cricket
Association(HCA), Ojha's bowling action was
analysed by the testing center in Chennai
which has been authorised by the ICC. The
officials found that his elbow was bent beyond
the permissible limit of 15 degrees.

The left-arm spinner, who was recently
awarded a Grade B contract by the BCCI, was
reported for an suspect bowling action by the
former Test umpire AV Jayaprakash during a
domestic cricket game last season.

The HCA, Ojha's state cricket board, on Friday
received a letter from the BCCI that revealed
the leg-spinner's ban in competitve cricket till
his action is cleared. The Indian spinner was
subsequently dropped from Hyderabad's squad
for their Ranji Trophy clash against the
Services, slated on Sunday.

It has been realised that the bowling action of
the 28-year-old spinner has been under the
scanner for over a year now. It is also the
possible reason as to why the leg-spinner has
been kept at bay from the national team
selection.

Ojha, who is one of the quickest Indian
bowlers to reach 100 Test wickets, last
featured for Team India against the West
Indies in a Test match that dates back to
November, 2013.

Ojha joins Pakistani spin duo Saeed Ajmal and
Mohammad Hafeez in the list of bowlers
banned by the ICC in the recent crackdown on
illegal bowling actions.
