BENGALURU: Petrol stations across
India will stop accepting debit and
credit cards from Monday in protest of
what petroleum dealers term an
"irrational and sudden" move by
banks to charge 1% transaction fee
on every payment accepted by card.

While the banks' move is not directly
targeted at the citizens — no new
charges to be levied on customers
using cards — it will certainly
inconvenience lakhs of vehicle
owners given the paucity of cash in
the system, if petrol stations continue
with cash-only operations.
The non-acceptance of credit/debit
cards at petrol stations comes at a
time when the Centre is pushing for
increased non-cash transactions, and
close on the heels of its
announcement of a 0.75% cashback
offer on purchase of petrol using
cards.

Credit & Debit Cards Not acceptble from 9 Jan. 2017 on Petrol stations in India ..

It's a typical Indian mindset. When all over the there is merchant fee then Indian merchants want it for free.

Guys one doubt, I used SBI in petrol bunks, no extra charge debited other than fuel amount.
When I used ICICI Cards, in some petrol bunks some extra amount is being debited after 2 days.? Why is it so?

Any idea...

Petrol pumps using HDFC POS machines won’t accept credit and debit cards from Monday: Association

The petrol pump across India which are using HDFC Point of Sale (POS) Machines, won’t accept payments through credit and debit cards as the recent bank has decided to levy 1 per cent charge on every transaction made by merchant’s side. According to reports, the move has been taken by Mumbai Petrol Dealers Association and its union leader Ravi Shinde said, “most of the petrol pumps are using HDFC Point of Sale (POS) Machines. Also in Bengaluru, Petrol Pump Owners’ Association has decided today to stop accept debit and credit cards as a payment across petrol pumps in the city.

Also in Bengaluru, Petrol Pump Owners’ Association has decided today to stop accept debit and credit cards as a payment across petrol pumps in the city. This could be another issue for people across the nation who are left with no choice, rather than use credit or debit cards during a cash crunch.

Ravindra was quoted by the News Minute saying that, on Saturday the petrol pump association received a message that banks are going to levy 1 per cent transaction on any cashless transaction made at the pumps. With this decision, pump owners will face losses equal to twice the profit a petrol pump makes, argues Ravindra. He further said that considering all this they have decided not to accept credit or debit cards as a payment option.
