Report by India Education bureau, New Delhi: Peel, worldwide leader in smart home control and television tune-in, today announced it is expanding the range of devices controlled on its smart remote app to include a variety of smart home electronics including thermostats, lights, air conditioners, and other home appliances.
This announcement follows the unveiling of the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the HTC One M9 smartphones in Barcelona earlier this month, both of which come pre-loaded with the Peel branded “Smart Remote,” and another announcement that Indian smartphone manufacturer Karbonn is joining Xolo, Celkon and Alcatel Onetouch in offering Peel Smart Remote capabilities in their products throughout India. Peel has over 100 million users worldwide who generate more than 7 billion remote commands a month.
“Our customers, particularly in India and China, have pushed us to extend our universal remote capabilities beyond TVs, set-top boxes and other entertainment devices, and include additional categories of home electronics,” said Peel Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer Bala Krishnan. “What they are looking for, and what we are working towards providing, is a unified, multi-device, intelligent home experience controlled from a single smart remote app.”
India is one of the fastest growing markets for Peel, with the number of Indian users doubling every six months. Peel operates on all mainstream brands of TVs and air conditioners sold in India, and 600 set-top boxes, including Airtel, Tata Sky, Dish TV, Hathway, DEN and Siti Cable. The Peel app has won a variety of awards, including “Best Mobile Photo, Art, Video or TV App” at the 2015 GSMA Global Mobile Awards announced last week.
“Karbonn as a leading Smartphone player in India has been focused towards bringing immersive technology experiences to the consumers spearheading many new technology innovations in the country. Taking its vision of Simplifying technology further, entering Internet of Things segment is the next technology progression for Karbonn and we are delighted to collaborate with Peel to bring IoT capabilities to Karbonn devices for an enhanced consumer lifestyle experience. This technology would allow Karbonn customers to remotely access various home appliances and gadgets with a tap of their Smartphones for optimized energy consumption, enhanced device efficiency and manage security further adding value to their Smartphone experience,” said Shashin Devsare, Executive Director of Karbonn Mobiles.
Through a range of connection modes, including IR, Bluetooth, WiFi, and updated interface screens, the latest Peel app allows users to create pre-set “Peel-in” room experiences that integrate multiple home electronics. “A Peel-in living room experience might involve simultaneously turning on your TV and sound system, closing the blinds, adjusting room temperature and lowering the lights, all with the tap of one button,” explained Krishnan.
