Paytm, PVR Tango to Delight Moviegoers

Paytm, the leading mobile wallet company, will offer tickets at three clicks to movie goers at PVR cinemas across the country.

PVR, the largest film and entertainment firm, aims to generate `14,000 crore by selling tickets on Paytm e-commerce platform, in addition to sale of tickets from box offices and other channels. Paytm is mulling over attractive cash back offer to consumers using its platform to book movie tickets at PVR and has budgeted `120 crore for the year 2016.

“It is an opportunity to know our customers better,” said Kamal Gianchandan, Chief Strategy, PVR Ltd. The company aims to use Paytm’s data to understand the moviegoers’ behaviour and enhance the audience experience. PVR has 501 screens at 111 properties in 45 cities.

“We have brought down the number clicks from 12 to three, to book a movie ticket or purchase popcorn and other confectionaries,” said Vijay Shekar Sharma, founder and CEO, Paytm.

The current size of movie ticketing market is about `13,400 crore and is growing 10% annually. Since the online movie ticketing market is only 15% of the total domestic market, there is a huge potential growth.

Meanwhile, BookMyShow, India’s largest online entertainment ticketing brand, has partnered with Uber, the smartphone app, to offer movie buffs a superior movie-going experience. This partnership will enable BookMyShow users to book an Uber when they buy their movie tickets on the BookMyShow mobile app.
