Ten Sports retains PCB rights for another five years

However, this time around the rights are jointly held with PTV. Seems PTV will be the host broadcaster in Pakistan while Ten Sports will show the matches outside Pakistan.

This rights assumes significance due to the prospect of India playing Pakistan atleast twice in UAE during this period if not three times.

MUMBAI: The Board of Governors from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have approved awarding broadcasting rights to Ten Sports and Pakistan Television, the joint-bidders for PCB’s next rights cycle for five years.

Ten Sports had previously bagged five-year cricket rights from PCB in 2008 reportedly for $140.5 million dollars. The current cycle of rights begins from April 2015 to early 2020. Ten Sports has been the rights holder for PCB for the last 10 years.

The package will also include India versus Pakistan matches, besides some other strong matches. According to information available with Indiantelevision.com, among those bidding for the rights for this cycle were Sony and OSN Sports, apart from a few brokering companies.

As part of the arrangement, India and Pakistan matches are scheduled for the latter half of this year around November-December 2015, subject to government approvals from both sides.

PCB sells five-year broadcasting rights to PTV Sports, Ten Sports

Pakistan Television Sports (PTV Sports) and Ten Sports have bagged broadcasting rights for Pakistan matches for the next five years. The decision to sell the telecast rights of the cricket matches to the two channels was approved by Board of Governors from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

The current cycle for the rights begins from April, 2015 and ends in early 2020. The meeting of the PCB board was conducted on Tuesday, reports dunyanews.

Shaharyar M Khan, Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, had recently said that the board is devising a five-year strategic plan to improve cricket structure in the country. “The PCB’s five-year strategic plan, which will be presented to the Board of Governors at the next meeting, aims to streamline PCB’s planning related to a number of areas,” Khan said, according to The Nation.
Back in 2008, Ten Sports had paid PCB around USD 140.5 million dollars for broadcasting rights for the matches. Last year, Dubai-based television network, Ten Sports won rights to telecast Pakistan’s home series against Australia and New Zealand for a reported USD5.4 million, according to a report by LiveMint.
