Pakistan call off home series against Afghanistan over security issues
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has called off its upcoming home series against Afghanistan, owing to security issues following a bomb blast in Lahore that killed 70 people.
Amjad Bhatti, a PCB spokesperson, told Associated Press, that negotiations with the Afghanistan cricket board were ongoing, but added, "but now the tour is called off due to overall security situation in the country,"
Owing to the bomb blast, Azizullah Fazly, the executive director of the Afghanistan cricket team, requested Pakistan board to guarantee complete security, and deemed PCB's reaction as 'unacceptable'.
We gave them another option, to hold the championship in Dubai, which would be good because many people from both countries live there. But we havent yet received any response, Fazly said.
Afghanistan were to follow Zimbabwe's suit and become only the second men's team to tour Pakistan since the terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan team bus in 2009. The Associate Nation was scheduled to play a three-match One-Day International (ODI) series next month.
