Over 8.5 lakh Indians want to buy the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 today
Xiaomi, which launched the Redmi Note 3 smartphone last week, has its work cutout today as more than 8.5 lakh people have registered to buy the phone today. The phone which will be available through Amazon India in flash sale today will likely not last long considering the amount of pre-registrations. The phone will also be available on its own portal Mi.com.
"Mi Fans - we received 8.5 lakh registrations for the Redmi Note 3 over 5 days across Amazon India and Mi.com," tweeted Manu Kumar Jain, Xiaomi's head in India.
The phone was launched by Xiaomi's Hugo Barra last week at an event in Delhi, where he compared the performance of the phone to high-end smartphones like the Google Nexus 6P.
"Now on launch day, to have received 8.5 lakh registrations in just 5 days is an achievement so awesome that we're over the moon now. Thank you for so much for the love, India! Happy Redmi Note 3 day!," wrote Barra in a Facebook post.
The Redmi Note 3, which is the first phone launched by the Chinese smartphone company in India is made in India at Foxconn's Vizag plant. The device is available in two models - a 16GB model costing Rs.9,999 and a 32GB model costing Rs.11,999. Importantly, the 32GB model comes with 3GB RAM as opposed to 2GB RAM on the 16GB model.
For its price, the Redmi Note 3 is a feature rich device and if reviews are any indicators it is a quality product. It is the first phone to be powered by the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 6-core processor. It has a full-metal unibody and has a 5.5-inch fullHD screen which is protected by a Corning cover-glass.
The phone is known to deliver great battery life, which happens mainly because it houses a huge 4,050mAh battery which also supports Qualcomm's fast charging technology. On the back of the device, there's a 16-megapixel camera which has a phase detect autofocus system and also a dual-LED flash and a fingerprint scanner. On the front too, it has a 5-megapixel camera for video chats and selfies.
The phone runs on Android Lollipop which is relatively old and it is based on Xiaomi's own Mi UI skin. Xiaomi has partnered with Hungama for some free content which will be available to Redmi Note 3 buyers for a limited period.
The dual-SIM 4G LTE phone also packs a microSD card slot and supports 5 LTE bands, a feature that's only available in top-tier phones like the iPhone 6S and the Google Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P.
