About 40lakh people have got themselves registered across the state for the Samajwadi Party’s smartphone scheme, under which the party will distribute free smartphones if it is voted to power after 2017 UP elections. The last date for applying for the scheme is November 10.
From Bijnor district, as many as 1.09 lakh people have applied for the Samajwadi Smartphone scheme so far. Other west UP districts are not far behind as 46,398 people have applied online from Amroha, 39,890 from Saharanpur, 31,073 from Baghpat, 1.17 lakh from Moradabad and 15,828 from Shamli district.
Earlier, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav had announced that his government would provide smart phones to the people who are above 18 years of age if his party is elected to power.
As per the data provided by National Informatics Centre (NIC), so far 40 lakh people have applied to avail the benefit of the scheme. Giving details, NIC district in-charge Nand Kishore said: “The scheme is aimed at spreading awareness among people about various schemes and polices implemented in the state. Besides, government would also get the feedback from these schemes.”
“The Samajwadi smartphones will be equipped with the latest technology. It will have a detailed unified application with audio, video and textual information about the state government. The phone’s application will also have features for farmers like latest rates of agriculture products, details of best farm practices and weather-related data as well.
"Similar information will be available for milk producers, along with job and vacancy information, reading material for students, loan and other financial assistance details for small-time businessmen," Kishore said.
The smartphone will be distributed in the second half of 2017. The applicants will have to self-attest the information provided by them at the time of registration and they will be getting information through SMS alerts, at every step.
The chief minister had said that by rolling out the world’s largest free laptop distribution scheme, the Samajwadi Party government had ushered in ‘Digital Democracy’ in the state and expressed hope that the new smartphone scheme will enable two way communication between the people and the state government.
