Surgical strike backlash: Over 100 Pakistani terrorists set up launch pads at LoC to attack, disclose intelligence agencies
In the midst of the increasing tensions between India and Pakistan a new revelation by the intelligence agencies has highlighted the depth of the problem India faces from the Pakistan Army sponsored proxy terror groups. The Indian Army had only recently carried out a surgical strike in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir that eliminated 7 terrorist launch pads. However, an assessment by intelligence agencies has indicated that there are more than 100 terrorists that are setting up terror launch pads across the Line of Control.
The assessment by the intelligence agencies, which was originally reported in the Times of India, reveals that the terrorists are all set to launch attacks on India. Moreover, the intelligence agencies also observe that the Pakistan Army is trying to actively assist the terrorists by taking a stock of the deployment of Indian forces on the LoC and supplying the information to the terrorists.
Meanwhile, Border Security Force (BSF) Director General KK Sharma on Tuesday said there was ”tension” along the International Border (IB) with Pakistan in the wake of the surgical strikes carried out by the Indian Army across the Line of Control.”There is still tension at the International Border (IB) that runs along Jammu, Punjab, Rajasthan and Gujarat,” Sharma said. He also added that there had been “no ceasefire violation” or “exchange of firing” on the International Border so far since the surgical strike was conducted.
The news of the surgical strike by the Indian Army was, of course, was not well received in Pakistan. Ever since the strike happened the Pakistani strategy has been to deny it took place while attempting to heat up tensions at the LoC. A number of ceasefire violations and unprovoked firing from the Pakistani side have been reported since the strike took place last month. Officially, however, the Pakistani Army is trying its best to establish that the surgical strike did not take place.
The Pakistani Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif, was quick to issue a press statement soon after the Indian Army’s revelation. Trying to cover up the embarrassment doing rounds in Pakistan and trying to allay Pakistani fears, Nawaz Sharif had said, “We condemn this attack, our desire for peace should not be interpreted as our weakness. We are ready for the safety and defence of our country.” Nawaz Sharif had also gone on to say that he, “strongly condemned the unprovoked and naked aggression of Indian forces resulting in the martyrdom of two Pakistani soldiers along Line of Control.
The Pakistani Inter-Services Intelligence Agency’s Inter Services Public Relations wing too had been quick to denounce Indian claims so as to cover up its embarrassment. Though the ISPR had confirmed the Indian offensive carried out in Bhimber, Hotspring, Kel & Lipa sectors, on Pakistan’s side of the Lin of Control, the ISI had tried to dismiss the strike as “regular” cross-border firing that occurs between India and Pakistan. The agency and senior leaders of Pakistan had conceded to the fact that two Pakistani soldiers were killed and nine injured during the “Cross-border firing”. The ISPR had also said, “Pakistan has made it clear that if there is a surgical strike on Pakistani soil, same will be strongly responded”.
The Pakistan military too had been swift in dismissing the notion of a surgical strike. The statement issued by them had read, “The notion of surgical strike linked to alleged terrorist bases is an illusion being deliberately generated by Indians to create false effects. This quest by Indian establishment to create media hype by rebranding cross-border fire as surgical strike is fabrication of truth. Pakistan has made it clear that if there is a surgical strike on Pakistani soil, same will be strongly responded.”
