Open IPTV Forum (OIPF), an industry consortium working toward accelerating the deployment of IPTV technologies, announced the appointment of its president and vice presidents.
The non-profit has appointed Dr. Nilo Mitra as its new president. Mitra, who is engineering Director (Systems) at Ericsson (News - Alert), has been associated with the OIPF since its foundation four years ago.
The forum has also named its two new vice presidents; Dr. Luca Pesando of Telecom Italia (News - Alert) and Mohammed Dadas of Orange France Telecom.
The announcements were made at the OIPF General Assembly, an event hosted by Telecom Italia at the Telecom Italia Future Centre facility in Venice, Italy.
At the event, the forum presented Darren Vogel as the recently appointed marketing director and co-chair of the OIPF Marketing Committee, alongside Arnaud Vilain of France Telecom (News - Alert).
In a press release, OIPF said that Vogel previously worked as business development director for Accenture's Digital Media Services division. Before that, he was associated with such business initiatives as WiderThan (News - Alert), RealNetworks and Buongiorno.
OIPF is a collaborative industry body defining end-to-end and free-to-use standards to enable and accelerate innovative and exciting entertainment services, products and solutions to be delivered via IPTV in the most cost-effective and user-friendly manner.
OIPF Founding members include such industry high fliers as Panasonic, Samsung, Ericsson, Sony Corporation, France Telecom, Telecom Italia, Philips and Nokia (News - Alert) Siemens Networks among others.
In the release, OIPF announced that Dr. Mitra, Mohammed Dadas, Dr. Luca Pesando and Darren Vogel will be present at IBC, Amsterdam, Sept. 9-13, where the OIPF will be hosting members and industry guests.
Earlier this week, OIPF (The Open IPTV Forum) announced publication of an update to Release 2 of the global end-to-end Specifications for IPTV; Release 2 v2.1 is a major step forward for end-to-end interoperability within the IPTV ecosystem.
