OnePlus 3T to launch in India on December 2: Specifications and features

Good news for those who had been waiting for OnePlus 3T India launch. Earlier this week, OnePlus revealed that it will soon be launching its latest smartphone in India, but it did not reveal any launch date. Instead, OnePlus GM Vikas Agarwal volunteered for ‘Truth or Dare’ on the company’s Facebook page and said that he will reveal the launch date after the end of this round. Staying true to his words, he took the bungee jumping challenge and at the end of it he revealed that the new smartphone is coming to the Indian shores on December 2.

In comparison to the OnePlus 3, the new smartphone is equipped with a slightly better chipset, comes with more storage, a better selfie camera and slightly larger battery. It is offered in two storage options – the one with 64GB storage variant, priced at $439 (approximately Rs 30,000), whereas the 128GB variant is priced at $479 (approximately Rs 32,500). To put these prices to perspective, the OnePlus 3 with 64GB storage is priced at Rs 27,999.

OnePlus 3T specifications

Just like the OnePlus 3, the OnePlus 3T also sports a 5.5-inch full-HD (1080p) Optic AMOLED display covered with 2.5D curved glass and Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection. It is powered by Qualcomm’s 64-bit Snapdragon 821 quad-core SoC clocked at 2.35GHz, paired with 6GB of RAM and Adreno 530GPU.

In the photography department, the smartphone sports a 16-megapixel rear snapper (Sony IMX398 image sensor) of aperture f/2.0. It also comes with features such as Phase Detection Auto-focus (PDAF), Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS). It also supports 4K video recording at 30fps, and slow-motion HD video recording at 720fps. There is also a 16-megapixel front-facing camera of aperture f/2.0 for selfies and video calling, and it also supports 1080p video recording.

Armed with a 3,400mAh battery and support for Dash Charge technology, it can charge your smartphone from 0-60 percent in about 30 minutes. With connectivity options such as dual-SIM card slots, 4G LTE and VoLTE HD voice calling, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth, NFC and GPS, the smartphone also comes with USB Type-C port for charging and data transfer.

The OnePlus 3T boots Android 6.0 Marshmallow-based Oxygen OS out of the box, and it will soon be updated to Android 7.0 Nougat, later this year. Other features of the OnePlus 3T include fingerprint sensor embedded inside the home button, and the Alert Slider on the side to quickly turn on the silent or vibration mode.

OnePlus 3T with Snapdragon 821 SoC launched in India, prices start at Rs 29,999

OnePlus launched the OnePlus 3 in June, and just over five months later, the company has launched a souped-up version of its flagship smartphone. The OnePlus 3T was unveiled a couple of weeks back, and today it has been launched in India. Prices start from Rs 29,999, and the smartphone will be going on sale via Amazon India from December 14.

It seems a tad strange that OnePlus would launch a better version of its flagship smartphone in such a short time, especially since the OnePlus 3 is widely considered to be among the best devices in the sub-Rs 30,000 segment. What’s more, the two smartphones look exactly the same as well. The company has instead focused on updating the internals, and one of the biggest changes is in what powers the OnePlus 3T. The OnePlus 3 was powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 quad-core (2.2GHz dual-core + 1.6GHz dual-core) paired with Adreno 530 GPU. The OnePlus 3T, on the other hand, is powered by Qualcomm’s newer Snapdragon 821 quad-core (2.35GHz dual-core + 1.6GHz dual-core) processor paired with Adreno 530 GPU.

While on paper it may not really look like a massive update, Qualcomm’s new processor brings in efficiency over of its predecessor. With the 821 running relatively cooler than the 820, it doesn’t need to throttle the speeds as much, and can consistently run at full-speed when required. The efficiency also has a positive effect on the overall battery life. The only other smartphones in India featuring a Snapdragon 821 chipset is the Google Pixel XL and the Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe .

This also brings us to the next big change — battery. The OnePlus 3T features a bigger 3,400mAh battery, as opposed to the 3,000mAh unit on the OnePlus 3. Most OnePlus 3 reviews confirmed that the battery was good enough to survive for more than a day. With a bigger battery, we can safely expect better battery life. OnePlus has retained its proprietary Dash Charge feature for quickly charging the battery, and the company claims that 30 minutes of charging gives enough power to last the day.

OnePlus 3T price

The OnePlus 3T is going on sale in India in two variants, differentiated by storage. The 64GB variant is priced at Rs 29,999, while the 128GB variant is priced at Rs 34,999. In comparison, the OnePlus 3 64GB is currently available for Rs 27,999.

OnePlus 3T specifications

The OnePlus 3T flaunts a 5.5-inch full HD (1920×1080 pixels) Optic AMOLED display protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 4. The Snapdragon 821 processor is paired with 6GB of RAM.

On the photography front, OnePlus hasn’t tweaked a lot to the primary camera, which is still a 16-megapixel snapper with Sony IMX 298 image sensor, f/2.0 aperture, PDAF support, and 4K video recording capabilities. Up front though, instead of an 8-megapixel snapper, the OnePlus 3T features a 16-megapixel fixed-focus selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture and 1080p video recording capabilities.

The OnePlus 3T also features a fingerprint scanner embedded into the home button up front, an Alert Slider on the side, and connectivity options like dual-SIM card (nano) slots, 4G LTE support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC and GPS. The OnePlus 3T runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow-based Oxygen OS, and will be updated to Android 7.0 Nougat later this year .
