Although Ola is a leading Indian cub curating service, but the company faces a massive competition from US-based Uber, which is equally popular among cab riders in India. Both the companies, along with different categories of economical and luxurious rides, offer an option of shared rides, where people can pool in a cab with fellow riders going in the same direction. Now, since the fare gets divided in a shared ride, it’s the cheapest and a very popular ride option among Indians. Therefore, pulling in more people to use its Ola share, the company has launched a new offer, under which a pool ride to a metro station in Delhi NCR costs a flat Rs 50.

However, it of course comes with a set of terms and conditions. First of all, the offer is valid only in Delhi NCR, and for five days in a week, which is from Monday till Friday. Also, the offer applies if the ride is taken between 8AM and 10PM. And most importantly, the offer is valid only if the metro station is within 7km of the pickup location, post that distance regular share rates are applicable. The offer kicks in from today and is valid till the end of February 2017.

Ola had launched its ride sharing feature last year. To use Ola Share, the riders have to join one or more groups as per their choice and their travels will be matched with their group members only. User can join groups on the basis of their location, workplace, gender, and more.

“Ola Share has been one of our most widely adopted categories to date and we are ecstatic by the kind of traction it has been receiving. As far as our vision for shared mobility goes, Ola Share is our effort towards building sustainable mobility. Considering the current state of air pollution and traffic congestion in Delhi, using a shared cab could put more people in fewer cars, reducing the burden on the environment and on our roads. This is why we have targeted the Delhi Metro where every day we have thousands of people travelling to similar locations in separate autos and other modes of transport. Introducing flat rates will effectively encourage them to share rides at affordable, convenient prices and help us create a greener future.” Deep Singh, Business Head of North, Ola said.

“Through these special fares, we are also aiming to solve the issues last mile connectivity, which is often a pain point for a lot of daily commuters especially during extreme weather conditions and peak traffic timings,” he added.

Ola has really been working on making the ride sharing option a big things among users in India. A recent report also suggested that Ola may be working on expanding its ride sharing feature to other modes of transport Ola operates in. According to a report in Economic Times, Ola is considered expanding its ride-sharing feature to auto rickshaws and even kali peelis which run in Mumbai. Not only that, Ola also plans to further extend the feature to Ola Rentals and outstation.
