New Zealand Cricket (NZC) chief executive Justin Vaughan has hailed the International Cricket Council (ICC) decision to ban runners.

The decision was taken during the ICC's cricket committee meeting in Hong Kong on Monday.

Vaughan was part of the committee, including the likes of former internationals Clive Lloyd, Mark Taylor, Gary Kirsten, Ravi Shastri and current Sri Lankan player Kumar Sangakkara, which recommended the rule changes.

"It's a bit of an anomaly of cricket where the batters can get some help, but the bowlers can't," Stuff.co.nz quoted Vaughan, as saying.

"There's certainly a feeling that runners were increasingly being used for spurious reasons. We shouldn't forget that cricket is not only a skill-based game, but a fitness and endurance game too," he added.
