NVIDIA has introduced Max-Q, a new mobile graphics initiative that makes gaming laptops thinner, quieter and faster. It allows PC makers to use up to a GeForce GTX 1080 graphics card into a laptop as thin as 18mm (0.71 inches).
Prior to Max-Q, gaming laptops typically had to be larger and thicker to support the heavy cooling and power requirements of the a GPU. Nvidia claims Max-Q will offer up to 70 percent more gaming performance than what is currently available. The technology is based on its current Pascal GPU architecture which, when combined with ground-up designs from OEMs, puts unheard-of performance in super-thin laptops. The Max-Q designed laptops are engineered with thermal and electrical design.
MaxQ-designed gaming laptops equipped with GeForce GTX 1080, 1070 and 1060 GPUs will be available starting June 27 from laptop OEMs and system builders, including Acer, Aftershock, Alienware, ASUS, Clevo, Dream Machine, ECT, Gigabyte, Hasee, HP, LDLC, Lenovo and others.
