WhatsApp has been testing a number of features for its instant messaging app, all of which first appear in the beta version. A few weeks ago, the company was testing a feature that allows group administrators to send invite links via third-party apps to add new members to the group. Until now, you were required to modify the app APK to get the feature, and it only worked on rooted devices. However, the feature has now gone live in the latest WhatsApp beta for Android (version 2.16.281). To download the latest beta app, you can join Google’s Play Store beta testing program by clicking here .

The new feature can be a boon for businesses and communities, allowing them to increase their reach via WhatsApp public groups. It will also allow members to share invites on other public platforms, thus bringing more people to the WhatsApp group. After installing the latest WhatsApp beta, group administrators can take advantage of the ‘Invite to group via link’ button to add new participants to the chat. Administrators will also get an option to revoke the link anytime they want. Once the link is revoked, you won’t be able to add any more group members.

How to create WhatsApp public group invite link

Step One: Create a group on WhatsApp. Next, tap on the three dots on the top right corner, and tap on ‘Group Info.’

Step Two: Here, you have options like group icon, edit group name, mute option and custom notifications. There is also an option to ‘add participants,’ just tap on that and you will have ‘Invite to group via link’ on top of your contact list.

Step Three: Tapping on the ‘Invite to group via link’ will open a new screen with a unique link, which you can share via WhatsApp , copy link or share it with other third-party apps. The revoke link is also present there, in case you don’t want to add any more members to the group.

There are two more options available – QR Code and NFC tags. You can access these options by tapping on the three dots on the top right corner. You can also save the QR Code as a PDF file to take a printout, or in card size to print it on your business or visiting cards. Similarly, clicking on the ‘Write NFC tag,’ option, you can create NFC tags that people can tap on their NFC-enabled smartphones.

When recipients click on the link, scan the QR code or join via NFC, they get a popup asking if they want to join the group or cancel it. Recently, WhatsApp also introduced feature that lets you tag people in WhatsApp group. Other features include the ability to create and send animated GIFs, selfie flash in built in camera and Snapchat like doodle feature.
